Why I Can't Vote For Obama

By Huntley Brown

Dear Friends,
A few months ago I was asked for my perspective on Obama, I sent out an e-mail with a few points. With the election just around the corner I decided to complete my perspective. Those of you on my e-list have seen some of this before but its worth repeating..
First I must say who ever wins the election will have my prayer support. Obama needs to be commended for his accomplishments but I need to explain why I will not be voting for him.
Many of my friends process their identity through their blackness.
I process my identity through Christ. Being a Christian (a Christ follower) means he leads I follow. I can't dictate the terms he does because he is the leader.
I can't vote black because I am black I have to vote Christian because that's who I am. Christian first

I don't necessarily respect his views, per se, but I do respect his right to have different views than mine.

Having not been religious for sometime now, of course I don't share this man's views.

However, in light of his statements about God and Jesus, I'd have to say that the God I was taught about really didn't concern himself in human affairs since Christ's birth, and Christ would most likely urge individuals to vote for the candidate who would do the most to ease human suffering, not to increase wealth. The Christ I was taught about would think of health care as a human right, and would be appalled at those who would villify another's religious beliefs regardless of the belief.

Thank God that someone finally does stand up and is not afraid to voice their religious beliefs.

Obama has stated that he wants more support for adoption, not abortion, so more women are encouraged to go the adoption route.

I have looked at the votes in the Senate and noticed that Obama voted yes for more funding for pregnancy prevention to reduce the amount of abortions while McCain voted against it.

And you could see Jesus agreeing with the smear campaign?

I agree, I am a Christian also and I have a hard time with the notion that Jesus would be so interested in the election of one of the worlds wealthiest nations but would turn a blind eye to Darfur or Somolia. I recognize that the bible is a valuable tool for keeping us focused on what is important in life but to think that it expressly deals with the specifics of every situation. Pray that you live according to Gods will yes but remember that he gave you free will and expects you to make your own decisions.

A very interesting prospective, how much nastiness did that get back at you?

I am sure some had some nasty things to say.
