Seems the RNC spent a LOT of money dressing Palin - unheard of to do this kind of stuff for a candidate.

Good point, songwright.
The Atlantic???? Please!
Funny how the liberal media doesn't even mention the $400,000 that the Obama campaign spent of food last month.
Anyway, aren't we not supposed to talk about things like this? We aren't supposed to talk about Obama's associations with Ayers, Acorn, and Wright. We are supposed to stick to the issues....right?
It matters because Palin has been promoted as just another "hockey mom" or "Wal-Mart mom",
"somehow I just can't
I have to admit that my post was a little on the specious side.

Campbell Brown of CNN wrote an interesting OpEd on this today.
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/10/22/campbell.brown.looks/index.html
Part of me agrees with Brown in that yes, the societal obsession with a woman's looks makes it that much more important that a female candidate be dressed, coifed, and made-up impeccably. Doing this usually costs much more than it does for men. And a woman in those positions who does not meet the public image of what a woman in that position should look like stands little chance in making progress in the political realm. It is sexist, and I do wish society would just get over it.
I wear neither make-up nor designer clothes, and I look darned good thankyouverymuch.
On the other hand, if male candidates are going to get slammed for having their campaigns pay for haircuts, I see no reason why Palin's new clothes and coif (BTW--the cost of which exceeds her annual salary as governor of Alaska) should be considered an appropriate campaign expense.
IOW--if you can't afford the clothes yourself, then perhaps you shouldn't be shopping at Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Ave. I know I don't.
>They have used 4.4 million, and most of that was on postage.

Actually, food is part of the regular budgets for campaigns. Having worked for the RNC before (as a fundraiser and in opposition research for a short term) and having volunteered for campaigns I know they need pizza money, etc. to keep the volunteers and staff running into the wee hours.
How much has McCain's campaign spent on food?
I hear their expenses are really down the last 6 weeks, as they've been pretty much living on Mooseburgers from Sarah's freezer.
