Obama is NOT raising taxes

Much has been said about Obama raising taxes, but here's the deal on it.
George W Bush is raising your taxes. It is his tax cut that he signed into law that contained the time for them to EXPIRE.
Obama had nothing to do with this Legislation. It was signed by George W Bush.
Of course, only a few years ago John McCain himself wouldn't support those tax cuts, flip-flopping (again) his position entirely since beginning to run for President after the 2004 election.

That's a contemptuous phrase...yes, totally different worlds.

I have a brother-in-law who worked as an average DOD employee - maybe making $80K in his best year.

The wealthy will gripe, but they didn't run away from the country when their taxes were twice or more the current rate.

>>> I have a brother-in-law who worked as an average DOD employee - maybe making $80K in his best year. It was his inheritance that made him wealthy. He invested in the markets and real estate with the assistance of a good advisor. He didn't work for that money that was making money for him.
Your BIL was lucky...and didn't acquire his "wealth" the way most people do. And while he was fortunate, the person he inherited it from probably worked very hard for it.
>>> He was bored, so he took a portion of his money, and he did open a business as a contractor to the DOD.
Aah...trickle down economics...your BIL was given money...he opened a business...that business paid taxes and purchased goods from other businesses...the business also employed people who pay taxes and purchase goods from other businesses. Great example.
>>> Now that things are looking less good, he will be "retiring' from his business and concentrating on enjoying the fruits of his investments.
Another great example of Obamanomics. The cost of doing business is increased, as would happen with Obama's punitive tax policies, so your BIL closes shop and puts people out of work. The government loses tax revenue, businesses lose sales, and the country as a bunch more people on the dole.
>>> While he was enjoying his inheritance, he didn't need to work. He chose to work for awhile. Now he chooses to manage his investments.
Sounds good. He's moving his money through the system, paying people, buying goods, paying taxes. Way to go. I love capitalism.
AMEN! I worked as a CNA, I know firsthand just how hard they work! And since I worked at a fairly elite Nursing home, we did have some very wealthy people staying there, you had to be to have to pay 6,000 a month, probably more now! It bothered me no end to have to do only minimal care on these folks who were spending so much of their life savings
It's not unbelievable at all. This is America, the land of opportunity. Sorry to disappoint but we certainly don't have wealthy relatives. LOL We did not receive help from relatives, not financially, and not physically. The relatives who live close by refused to babysit our other children while our daughter was in the hospital so we quit asking for help and quit telling them when our daughter was sick. It made our family closer, it felt like it was us against the world for a while. Nope sorry to disappoint, no help from relatives and not a dime from the government either.
Where there's a will there's a way. I guess people would call it pulling yourself up by your bootstraps although I've never thought of it that way. To us it just seemed like taking care of our responsibilities. We've actually had a lot of fun and a lot of laughs along the way.
I see you're not going to change. Our story, IMO, is really not that unusual. People everyday are doing what we did and far more. There's nothing special about us, we have just done what we needed to do to take care of our family.
