The Oppression

I want to tell a story, that I have heard a thousand times over, from the people whom I treat at my facility.

I run an addiction treatment center for the low-to-no-income (including homeless) individuals in the inner city of Baltimore.

((((Spreading the wealth around is a way to further oppress those who want to feel self-enabled.)))))

Thank you for your reply.

"many people receive welfare for decades, without just cause or reason."

There should be a system in place to find out why payments continue.

I don't think people realize that McCain isn't going to give you a 5,000 check. If you choose to buy ins on your own, that 5,000 goes directly to the INS Company. Not the person/family. He will TAX your Health in you get through your employer. So, if your Employer pays 12,600 a year for your ins,(which is the average) some companies with better policies pay a lot more, up to 18,000 a year, YOU will pay tax on that over the 12 month period. So, an extra 1,000 or so a month is taxed, so that's basically an extra 350.00 tax you will be paying. Now, tax time, McCain will let you deduct 5,000 from your taxes, but in my Dh's case, he already pays 375.00 a month for his ins for us, that's 4,500 a year! so, whe are taxed an extra 350 a month, still pay 375.00 as our portion. am i figuring something wrong here?

McCain wants to help INSURANCE COMPANIES----NOT US! why can't people SEE THIS?

Just because someone is poor, does not mean they are addicted to drugs.

are you saying you believe his plan will have you paying 350.00 a month - you're already paying PLUS 375.00 a month for taxes?

NO! The Employer pays 12,000 to the INS Company for my DH&My ins. McCain wants to TAX the amount your Employer pays for your ins. Read what I said again. So monthly it will be added on as INCOME. 12,000 a year, is 1,000 a month. So if you make 4,000 a month, you actually are taxed on 5,000 a month.

what I found on factcheck.org - which is closer to what I thought.

Tax the value of employer-provided health benefits. Employees would pay federal income taxes (but not Social Security or Medicare payroll taxes) on the value of those benefits. The tax credit would offset those taxes. Companies would not be taxed.

I don't know if the Employer is taxed as well or not. But it seems to me there are flaws in both policies that McCain and Obama are pushing. Either would need fine-tuning. I believe that the individual State should find a way to cover their own un-insured, maybe with a slight increase in sales tax, which in actuality is a consumption tax of sorts. We should be able to keep our ins through our Employers and then be able to deduct a portion of our Health Care premiums and expense out of pocket on our income tax returns. Loose the requirement that it has to be 7% of your income before you can deduct it. Also, Insurance companies cannot continue to penalize people or deny coverage for pre-exhisting conditions. That is MY opinion.
