Tootired, I think I can speak for MOST of us when I say that this horse has been beaten dead. This has been discussed on many threads. I can say that I've given my opinion on this and so has most of this board. How many ways can you skin a cat? When they say Ayers was sorry he didn't do enough, it was taken out of context. It was a blurb in a paragraph. I posted the whole article but do you think for one minute that it changed anyone's mind whose mind was already made up? We have all done things in our past when we were younger that we are not proud of.
What is sad is that here we are, days away from this election and the right is still harping about Ayers. That's OK, good luck with it.
I think it's been pretty well-established that the Weather Underground were not pacifists. That much has been known for a long time - ever since they detonated their first bomb, I'd guess. So that's not exactly news. But advocating violence (specifically, bombing) doesn't automatically make them "Stalinists." If it did, then G. Gordon Liddy'd be a Stalinist as well. So would Eric Robert Rudolph. Bombing is a tactic, not a philosophy or point of view.
And I don't mean to sound like a humbug but I've learned to distrust "current buzz" eleven days from a crucial election, especially when it comes from unnamed conservative sources. Perhaps especially on a day when one such conservative "buzzer" turns out to have carved a "B" into her OWN face to try to blame blacks, or Obama supporters or....whomever.
Your own "take" on William Ayers' psyche, or his goals or morals, may or may not resemble the reality of the man's thoughts and sentiments. However, what we can assess quite clearly are Ayers' actions in the time since he resurfaced after the Weather Underground days. Feel free to ascribe to them any motives you wish (I see you have already done so, LOL), but - not to put too fine a point on it - there's a reason we arrest people for bombing the Pentagon, but not for thinking about it. There's a reason people go to jail for murdering their spouse, but not for thinking about it. Even if every one of your ideas about this particular tiger not having changed his stripes after forty years is 100% accurate, it's a bit like what many social conservatives say about the gays: I don't mind that they're gay, as long as they never act on those feelings. Hehe.
Oh....and? Confederate Yankee? Honestly, Perry, that's not exactly a top-rung source there. Not that I dispute the transcript of the video clip in Yankee's post - it speaks for itself. I just think that the whole "relevance" issue is where the whole "D-List blogger" thing comes in. Let me see if I can translate Yankee's words here (courtesy of the fabulous Sadly, NO!:
Sounds about par for the course for ol' Confederate Yankee:
McCain LOST???
Oh yes, all those morons from
