No on Prop 8
October 24, 2008
Apple is publicly opposing Proposition 8 and making a donation of $100,000 to the No on 8 campaign. Apple was among the first California companies to offer equal rights and benefits to our employees’ same-sex partners, and we strongly believe that a person’s fundamental rights — including the right to marry — should not be affected by their sexual orientation. Apple views this as a civil rights issue, rather than just a political issue, and is therefore speaking out publicly against Proposition 8.

Good for them.
My union, the California Teacher's Association gave $1 million to the No on 8 campaign -- outraged about the lies regarding public education told by the supporters.
and the yes on 8 folks are sending letters to any business who donated to the No on 8 campaign, saying if they don't donate an equal amount to the Yes on 8 folks they will publically liste them as businesses who oppose traditional marriage.
This morning I want out to get my paper and found someone had shredded my No on 8 sign. They did not bother my Obama sign nor any of my neighbor's yes on 8 signs.
I guess once you are willing to vote to remove civil rights from people you don't care for, the step to personally removing civii rights from others must not be a large one for some folks.
What kind of lies were they telling?
There does not need to be a law in place, churches already have perfect and complete freedom to refuse to marry anyone, and need not give a reason.
The reason people fear this is their ministers are telling them it is true -- it is not. I imagine the Yes on 8 folks are distributing this lie (you can ask people in MA -- its not true) because I don't think a bunch of Christian ministers are suddently deciding to violate the commandment about bearing false witness.....
I imagine Steve Jobs isn't as wishy washy as McDonalds management appears to be. Good for Apple, and a nice thank you.
