"GOP clerk apologizes for 'black Hitler' posts
'Never intended to offend anyone,' she says of online attack at Obama

FRANKLIN, Ind. - A Republican county clerk in Indiana said she apologized for distributing to two of her employees an Internet blog posting referring to Barack Obama as a "young, black Adolf Hitler."

According to a police report, the employees discovered printouts of the unsigned post at their desks after returning from Labor Day weekend. They had both voted for Obama in the Democratic primary.

Johnson County Clerk Jill Jackson told The Associated Press that she was merely passing along an item that already was circulating in the office and that she "never intended to offend anyone."
The posting does not mention Obama by name but refers to events in his life that make it clear Obama is the target.

Local Republican Party officials call the incident unacceptable, saying it taints Jackson's ability to appear unbiased in administering this year's election.

OMG. I guess our freedom of speech is gone when we have to start apologizing for opinions.

What part of "distributing to TWO OF HER EMPLOYEES" (coupled with "both had voted for Barack Obama in the primary") did you not understand?

This isn't like Bill Maher being fired and forced to apologize for saying, after 9/11, that although you could call the 9/11 hijackers many unpleasant things, "coward" certainly wasn't one of them; anyone who'd give up their life willingly in service of a cause is certainly not a coward....but that Americans, who fly over from a safe distance and bomb enemies into submission before sending in the first ground troop might be a better fit for that term - "coward."

Now THAT was a chilling effect upon freedom of speech (though it was certainly within the network's rights to fire him). But THIS?

Nah.

Glad I don't live where she serves as county clerk. What do they have to do to get rid of her?
