or bad weather deter you from voting?

I remember the 2004 election and the lines were really long, although I was happy to wait.

We anticipate long lines, and so we are going to treat it like a sporting event. Packing snacks, lawn chairs, and all. lol. We might even wear "astronaut diapers" in case the bathrooms are off limits...that's how serious voting in this election is! Based on McCain's temperament and poor choices, I beleive that McCain would have us in as many wars as he could muster, and then leave that unprepared Palin in charge, if we don't vote Obama in on Tuesday!

I voted on Wednesday at the Northgate Mall in Chattanooga, TN with my 19 year old sister.

What?!?!?!?! I live in NC and I haven't heard a peep of this!! (Not arguing here, just surprised to hear it--I would *expect* the local news to be all over it, given our shiny new battleground status. But then again, it's something of a local pastime to complain about how terrible the news is at, well, delivering the actual news.:)) Can you provide any details?

Okay, back on topic...I voted last Saturday. I'm all about the early voting. It was great, far more efficiently and competently organized than my old precinct was last election. I did notice something kinda funny, though--the groups of partisan volunteers that usually infest polling places were very low key: they each had a little camplet on either side of the walkway at the requisite distance from the front door, but they weren't doing much of anything. They looked more like they were tailgating--big umbrella stuck into the ground, coolers, lawn chairs, and a knee-high forest of yard signs surrounding the chairs that was the only indication of which was which party. We waited in line for maybe half an hour, and never saw any of them approach people walking in, but they did chat back and forth a bit (from what I could hear, delegates from both camps had kids attending the school where we were voting).

I'm not trying to paint some idyllic picture here, but if my experience was at all representative, it might be another advantage of early voting: when it comes to the partisan peanut galleries outside polling places, maybe the parties save the "big guns" for Election Day.

My husband and I have already voted. I am limited physically and cannot stand on long lines even with my seated walker that I sometimes use. Therefore, they give me a paper ballot to fill out at the poles and turn in at that time. It's just as easy for me to fill out a paper ballot at home ahead of time, which is what I did this year. I along with my husband will continue this practice.

I will miss going to my voting location in person though for I love that day, very exciting and a good feeling to be an American with voting rights and priviledges.

We will, however, after reading one poster's comments, turn our ballot in in person next election to avoid any potential problems with the US Mail.

I voted Monday afternoon. Luckily, the line got long shortly after I got there. They were very efficient! I only hope the young people get out and vote this time!

I read about this incident on the Web (I believe Andrew Sullivan's blog.)
