It is simple really. The poster you responded to was not attacking you personally, but you responded by essentially calling that poster stupid, personally.

To be clear, the TOS police is not known for great consistency nor for logic necessarily. Still, hope the explanation helps.

OK, well the way I saw it, was that the poster WAS attacking me personally.

You are welcome. As far as your argument, I don't think it holds." Compassionate conservative" can be considered a concept (daddy Bush coinage?). You could simply tell the poster that she/he was wrong since you are a conservative and compassionate, then explain why you do not consider the two opposites. No real reason to call him/her stupid in the process. I fully understand the urge to characterize posts and posters as lacking in intelligence or insight, however, doing so does not add anything to any debate. If you have a convincing counter it will prevail on its quality and name-calling will only weaken it.

*sigh* I find the rules of this board to be hard to follow as well, and things that are clearly not meant as an attack get a violation.

Anyhoo, most of your post was fine but I am guessing it was the "use your brain" part that got the violation.

Someone emailed that a compassionate conservative is an oxymoron?

Oh, my.

Guess that leaves Christine Whitman, Colin Powell, Lincoln Chase, etc flailing in the wind.

I'm on the other side, but I totally agree with your post. There are so many people who won't talk politics at all. Anyone who posts here should have a pretty thick skin and should not be reporting a violation for a statement as innocuous as yours.

It seems that on this board some people feel they score points by reporting others for TOS violations. In most cases they are not personally offended at all by what is posted, but they are just in attack mode and it gives the person a sense of accomplishment if he/she can TOS another poster. Unfortunately there are adults who live their whole lives as one big competition--always trying to be beat the next guy.
