I missed it due to a graduate class :( so I wondered if anyone else had seen it. I was surprised not to see anything posted here about it. If you did watch it what did you think? Good? Bad? Valuable info? Waste of time? Are you planning to watch McCain later tonight?

I'm in that paper work as well, along with my young adult children our donations may not be big ones, but we did our part, including phone canvassing and we will be helping to get people to the polls next Tuesday.

You remember to not spend your Obama tax refund all in one place.

Line Item Veto Act of 1996

Presidents have repeatedly asked Congress to give them a line item veto power. According to Louis Fisher in The Politics of Shared Power, Ronald Reagan said to Congress in his 1986 State of the Union address, "Tonight I ask you to give me what forty-three governors have: Give me a line-item veto this year. Give me the authority to veto waste, and I'll take the responsibility, I'll make the cuts, I'll take the heat." Bill Clinton echoed the request in his State of the Union address in 1995.

The President was briefly granted this power by the Line Item Veto Act of 1996, passed by Congress in order to control "pork barrel spending" that favors a particular region rather than the nation as a whole. The line-item veto was used 11 times to strike 82 items from the federal budget by President Bill Clinton.

However, U.S. District Court Judge Thomas F. Hogan ruled on February 12, 1998, that unilateral amendment or repeal of only parts of statutes violated the U.S. Constitution. This ruling was subsequently affirmed on June 25, 1998, by a 6-3 decision of the Supreme Court of the United States in the case Clinton v. City of New York. The case was brought by the then New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani.

A constitutional amendment to give the President line item veto power has been considered periodically since the Court ruled the 1996 act unconstitutional. Some scholars, including Louis Fisher, believe the line item veto would give presidents too much power over government spending compared with the power of Congress.

In my state, it's great because most of the Obama commercials don't mention McCain once, either, while McCain's commercials focus specifically on Obama.

That's your opinion, about Obama being 100 times worse. I believe Obama before McCain anyday. McCain isn't helping the working Middle Class. Taxing our Health ins? He's got to be kidding. his 5,000 will go nowhere. Healthcare expenses go up more yearly than his 5,000 would adjust each year. He's saying 2%? HA! it goes

My boss told me that our healthcare will go up next year, and he is not sure how much. Last year it went up 10% per pay period, so $20 a month more, and that is $240 a year more. And I don't want to pay even more next year. My boss said he will provide health insurance, but how much he covers for each one of is might be much lower depending on the healthcare cost. He has never mentioned healthcare rise, since it was only about $8-10 or so more a year, but for him to say that it will definitely go up and he is not sure how much, that is scary!
