As someone who has been paying the marriage tax penalty the last 31 years, I would like to see ONE piece of tax legislation that treats singles as 1/2 of a married couple.

Even though both Biden and Richardson probably misspoke, I wouldn't mind seeing the limit for singles being raised to 1/2 that of married couples.

There must be a better way! I'm hoping Obama will find a better answer for us all. Unfortunately, my back is pretty bad. I am still in constant pain. I'm hoping physical therapy will lessen the pain somewhat. Thank you for asking! It's like paying income tax on social security. We've already paid taxes on it once!

Let's see when the marriage tax penalty got worse, look who was president.

What really concerns me is Bush's Medicare Advantage plan which overpays private insurance companies.

It looks like the marriage tax penalty was lessened a little in 2003, but only for those married couples with a combined income of less than $65,000 AND taking the std deduction. I guess ONE thing was done right during the Republican rule to help the middle class--at least they didn't give the break to only those earning over $1 million.
