I can't really help you decide (I don't like either candidate either), but as someone from Alaska, I can tell you that Gov. Palin has been supportive of alternative energy (not really sure where you got that she wasn't). She recently signed in a bill that set aside $250 million for alternative energy R & D. Just because she's for drilling in ANWR doesn't mean that alternatives aren't also a part of an energy policy she supports.
Also, I'm not sure that Gov. Palin's position on abortion would necessarily affect anyone. Here, our legislature approved a measure that would have denied benefits to same sex partners of state employees (as well as non-married hetero couples who live together). Gov. Palin vetoed that bill because it went against the Alaskan constitution. Also, despite her hard line views on abortion, Alaskan abortion laws have not changed since she's been in office and continue to be some of the most liberal in the nation.
I won't tell you who to vote for, but I will tell you who I have decided to vote for and why.
I'm choosing Senator McCain. It was a hard decision, because I am so impressed with Senator Obama and the way he has united so many people. My family pays $6700 out of pocket annually for our health insurance coverage, which is a high deductible plan that pays nothing until we have paid an additional 6000 family deductible. With a 5000 tax credit, even if the benefits are taxed, our health insurance costs would be cut substantially. I could even afford to get on the lower deductible plan. Senator Obama doesn't give enough information on his plan, but I fear that when all is said and done, my family will be on the cusp of getting no relief as our income will exclude us. When his plan starts getting tweaked, I am afraid that it will only end up covering the uninsured and children.
Although our taxes wouldn't increase under Senator Obama, both my husband and I work for those small businesses that would see an increase. We have already seen cut backs and such without a tax increase, I would fear for our jobs if Senator Obama would get his tax increase. If I'm not getting an income, tax releif is pretty useless to me.
Senator Obama is such an inspiring speaker. But when I look at Senator McCain with all of his physical disabilites, I realize that actions will always speak louder than words. He has the battle scars and he has earned the honor of being our president. I would truly feel safer knowing he was our commander in chief.
But, I agree with the PP, you should research the candidates and decide what you feel is best for you.
Thank you for assuming that I haven't listened to the debates, haven't read the papers, and that this is the only place that I'm asking for people's opinions. So sue me that I'm still undecided.
Also, I know that there are people that are pro-choice and also anti-abortion. I'm one of them.
Thank you (and others in this thread) who have shared why you are voting for your particular candidate. I've been leaning towards Obama, but I have enough concerns that I'm still seriously considering McCain. If the general consensus is that I shouldn't be asking on this board, I'll go elsewhere. Thank you for your time.

For finally.me,
I hope this helps:
I feel that to not speak about race -
unfortunately all you'll likely get here is bashing of who 'not' to vote for.

This late date and your mind is still not made up.
(Assuming you’re serious) I don’t think coming to this message board is a good way to help yourself decide who to vote for.
