Obama's aunt, the one he mentions in his memoirs, is living illegally in the United States in PUBLIC HOUSING!

This story came out, but immigration has not commented on her status, and they will not they said. They know exactly where she lives, so that to me shows that she is responsible, and if she lived in this country illegaly, then she would have been deported by now. If she was illegal, and the immigration dept did not deport her, how is that Obama's fault exactly? I would blame the immigration department for not keeping up with their work.

>> I find it hard to believe that Obama didn't know about this. Also, that he let his own flesh and blood live under those conditions at tax payer's expense! <<

Why do you assume that he is perfectly aware of the immigration status of a woman who was the half-sister of a father he met very briefly during his childhood? If he were aware that her petition for asylum had been rejected, I would imagine he would want to use his legal connections to find her a good lawyer to appeal the decision. You can't play this both ways: how deplorable he'd let his own flesh and blood live under bad conditions! AND how shocking that he didn't immediately work to deport her back to conditions that surely were much less ideal.

It is unfair to bring relatives into mix. Especially children and distant relatives. I remember once my son expressed interest in politics I not so jokingly told him his dear old mom had lived too wild a life for him to run for office. It's as silly to bring up all the relatives now as it was with Carter, Clinton and everyone else. I am not particularly interested in Palin's children but I do have sympathy for a young pregnant teen being thrust into the spotlight as she was. I think on the the good things I can say about McCain, and there is very little good I can say at this point, is that he has kept his daughter pretty sheltered from it this time around, especially since the 'whisper' campaign last time around.

sorry that gave me a giggle ;-)

I remember the crap Amy Carter had to endure -- as well as the Bush girls.

>>I Can you imagine if my DH that is a police officer did something like this? If we knew about an illegal alien in our family and didn't report them, especially one that is living off of the govt he would be fired from his job.<<

What state are you living in? That's... just not true. (Or if he were fired, he'd have a very real basis for a wrongful termination suit on his hands.) If he were EMPLOYING illegal immigrants himself, yes, perhaps, but having a relative whose immigration status is dubious and not turning them in is not a reasonable basis for firing someone.

a lot varies state to state and even dept to dept ... my dh b/c of his rank in the dept would lose his job or be demoted if he filed bankruptcy.

it's not just legalities involved, it's ethics and morality clauses that can be associated with depts, ranks, states ... lots of variables.

The article that was posted stated that this is an adminstrative and is considered a "NON-CRIMINAL" violatin of immigration law.

Surely policemen do not have a duty to examine every piece of paperwork, from every distant half relative in their family, and to turn in everyone who is "guilty" of an "adminsitratvie" (as opposed to "criminal" violation of law)

I think if this story was about a distant 1/2 relative of McCain you would be singing a different tune.

Does McCain now have an obligation to see that formal charges are brough against his brother for his unneccesary 9-1-1- call ?????

Well certainly ICE may not have done their job. However, what is she doing in public housing? We have been repeatedly told illegal immigrants don't get benefits like this, so are not a drain on public services.
