Yeah, makes me proud to be from there, even from afar, as I am now. San Diego's an odd sort of place in many ways. It's always lived in the shadow of its far larger, nearby neighbor, Los Angeles. And because there's a national border with Mexico, it's sort of by itself there, sandwiched between this giant, internationally-famous city, and another country. It's been its own city for decades....but it's never really lost the last vestiges of the "little brother" complex in some ways. San Diego has become (due partly to the large military presence and the large retired community) very, VERY conservative in many ways, yet it also is home to a vibrant beach/progressive community at the same time. Most of the politicians are Republicans - often as conservative or more conservative than the Orange County ones a few dozen miles up the coast. Tom Metzger, of KKK and Aryan Skinhead fame has long made the area home (even ran for office years ago - and lost). Yet SD is also the place-of-origin of people like Tom Waits and Diamanda Galas.

Either way, I'm happy to see that even the Republicans can have some good sense sometimes. At least, until the GOP Ministry of Truth gets hold of them, as happened to Lawrence Eagleburger recently, LOL.

Konichiwa, Bitches!
McCain LOST???
