Our local news was just talking about how gas has fallen to $1.99 a gallon here.

so to clarify -- you're speaking of your own area which is a swing state

What state are you in? I think gas prices involve state taxes and transportation costs - how far you are from a refinery. Gas here is 2.29 - 2.39 right now, I live in MD, not a swing state, but relatively close to NJ refineries with 41.9 cents per gallon gas tax.

Sort of off topic .. but I found it interesting... last night when I came home from a football party .. I noticed our gas prices had dropped since earlier in the day to 2.14 at our cheapest place ... yet the places a mile down the road (interstate) were still at 2.89 or 2.90.

Your gas taxes in Ohio are higher than ours in Maryland, but you are closer to a refinery as there are refineries in Ohio so that would play a part in your gas prices.

Taft made sure he raised the gas tax before he left office.

Over here people are happy because it's just dropped to 99p a litre. Which translates to about $6 per US gallon.

Yeah, that's what's made me chuckle about the gas "crisis" in the US - for a brief moment there, the USA ALMOST started paying....what the rest of the world has been paying for decades for a gallon of gas.

I wonder if it's that you get better prices for crude or if your govt is just less greedy about how much tax they put on it. I think Gordon Brown gets about 75p in the pound on our petrol.

Bastard.
