The taxes will go, in part, to paying off our national debt. Otherwise, even our great-great grandchildren will be paying off the debt we incurred. In 1931, we were taxed at 70% for a while!
War funding has been off-budget (not part of the regular DOD appropriations), so every so many months, the president has gone to Congress begging for an emergency appropriation to continue operations in Iraq.
