>I keep hearing this on this board. Are you suggesting that the best way to strengthen our economy is just to employ more government workers or maybe increase grants?<
No. What I am saying is that in a time of economic downturn, decreasing government spending can make things worse, not better, just like losing a job will hurt a family's economic prospects.

I'm thinking lower than 40-50% of my paycheck would be good. If Obama is in office, this is what some have to look forward to. It's what others have to look forward to if they're fortunate enough to succeed "too" much in the next 4 years. What kind of government takes nearly half of a person's paycheck???
Obama says the top tier would pay 39%, but imagine if you live in California where they have state income tax. Together they would eventually take 43% of your income. That means there are some who will only get to keep 57% of their own paycheck.

How much exactly in federal taxes do you feel is a reasonable amount to pay? And would you include Social Security & Medicare? All those combined with state income tax, and I still only have about 20% of my paycheck taken for taxes. And I'm having them take out almost the maximum to cover my side-business. And I STILL get money back at the end of the year.
Is 20% too much to pay?
I think the scare tactics about taxes are really getting a bit out of hand. Have you really calculated how much you pay in income-related taxes?

I think it would be a big mistake to only look at my personal situation. We have to look at America as a whole. Should any one person in this country pay 39% and up for taxes? In my opinion, the answer is no. Obama disagrees.
