What's going on?

I was composing a response in the Obama: Plan to Bankrupt Coal Industry thread. When the time came to post that response, the thread had gone bye-bye. And in the posts I've read since that attempt, there are parentheses after some iVillage members' names, abbreviations of their handles or long numbers that weren't there this morning.
Is anybody else seeing these changes or have I snapped after one too many political robo-calls?!

I checked a couple of my old 'favorite boards' and the problem seems to be specific here.

I actually noticed on my board first ... but when I was there earlier it wasn't all the , just some of them.
I know one of them was a poster who recently changed her id (after the birth of a child) ... so maybe that's it.
what the tech board says:
Hi everyone --
Our message board software vendor is experiencing sporadic server problems -- which could result in slowness, errors, display issues (member names displaying oddly, etc.) and other oddities. They're working to resolve this as quickly as possible and I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Thanks for your patience.

internet connnection settings ... but that's not it.
these numbers are too similar to each other ... it's an ivillage thing
Thanks for the explanation.
I'd love for iVillage to get new software which is more intuitive (recent replies on top rather than scrolling all the way down in "outline" view), has better workability of the site's features with Firefox (like HTML editors in the response frame), less loading of extraneous "stuff", etc.
