I have always been proud of my country. But there have been actions by some Americans that are shameful. Slavery was despicable, lynchings were evil, the abuse of Japanese Americans during WWII was a disgrace, the genocide of 70% of the native americans a stain on our American souls.
Yet: Martin Luther King Jr., our aide to Israel and the jews, our interventions to cure many children in Africa and Asia, our steady, patient avoidance of nuclear obliteration during the Cuban missile crisis, are a few examples of how many of us rise above petty, bigoted uglyness.
Today we the people, elected a man of color to lead us. We saw past the petty, bigoted hysteria about his name, we were able to reject the deception that paints every non white American as un patriotic.
Most of my ancestors are of the Cherokee tribe and there are many reasons why America's history saddens me. Today:
