Who wrote that? Very depressing.

Wow, that's a really uplifting look at what's coming! Well, you might be right, unfortunately.

I hope it's not that bad!

It's written by Michel Stipe of REM -- interestingly, one of the most liberal people on the planet.

I like Stipe, but I admit I have no idea what that stream of consciousness is supposed to mean, if anything. Having heard the song a million times, this is the first time I see the lyrics (I can never understand them when they are sung).

Here's another good fit for this election"

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

See I imagined the conservative mood more like this:

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.
Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: somewhere in the sands of the desert.

A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Reel shadows of the indignant desert birds.
The darkness drops again; but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?
-William Butler Yeats

My hometown paper seems frightened enough; calling Obama the most liberal president ever and basically warning how bad the country was going to be with Obama in charge

Well personally I think they could wait until January 21, 2009.

I've always wondered what the lyrics were for that song.
