My Hopes Regarding President Obama

Last night I was pretty depressed. I cried when John McCain conceded. I prayed for our newly elected President Obama, and for our country.

I started thinking about this man with the paper thin record, and thinking of his words, "I'm a pragmatist", and I started to feel a glimmer of hope. Is it possible that he won't push an ultra liberal socialist agenda? Food for thought, maybe his "present" votes were votes cast so that he wouldn't "tip his hand"? Maybe in good conscious he couldn't vote to the extreme left but knew that if he didn't he could never make it as far as he needed to in the extreme environment where he was traveling up the ladder to the white house?

We really know nothing about this man aside from his thin record. Maybe he won't be the Socialist leader that we expect. Maybe, now that he is in a position of power, he will seek good council and steer our country in the right direction rather than the wrong one.
I'm praying for that, because I don't want to see the country brought to her knees with another great depression and oppressive laws that limit our success and our freedoms.

I think we conservatives should put our money where our mouths are and start praying that this man will see the light, and lead our country well. I much prefer this scenario than the Jimmy Carter scenario on steroids which messes up the country so badly that he will not serve a second term and set the African American cause back for another generation.

Sorry I didn't understand you question, but the people did "choose" both of those leaders. Fidel spent a great amount of time trying to get the people to go along with his plans for the country by making them think it was in their best interest and he also managed to get the people to want him as their leader. I do know my history. Hitler also had a huge following of people because he was a good speaker. They are also a good example of people who were lead down the wrong path.

If you know your history, then you also know that Hitler was extremely outspoken regarding his antisemitism.

My point is not that Obama is like these men (not at all) only that it is possible for people to be deceived by the words of eloquent speakers and later find out they were duped.

I'm not saying they were clueless I'm simply saying that people will choose to follow someone and allow things they wouldn't normally allow when someone is a good speaker and can make things sound needed.

This is about the 5th time I've asked you to back up this claim:

<>

When, exactly did the Republicans try to impose reform? And how did the Dems block that reform when Republicans controlled both the White House and Congress?

If you have some evidence, please do share. Then I will admit I am wrong and stop bugging you ;-). Thanks.

I think you shouldn't use Hitler as a comparison.

>>ONE day after the election Russia has threatened to put missiles back in Cuba.<<

This has been in the works for awhile but I wouldn't worry, we all know how Obama is a great "friend" of Castro:

Putin says Russia needs to go back to Cuba: media
Mon Aug 4, 2008 2:12pm EDT

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin on Monday said it was time for Russia to rebuild links with former Cold War ally Cuba, news agencies reported.

The Kremlin is angry at U.S. plans for a missile defence system in Eastern Europe, and last month a news report suggested Russia might use Cuba, a thorn in America's side for half a century, as a refueling stop for nuclear-capable bombers.

The Russian Defence Ministry denied the report and said it had no plans to open any military bases abroad, but a top U.S. general was drawn to say such a move would cross a "red line".

Moscow was the Caribbean island's key oil, arms and grain supplier for 30 years, until subsidies propping up the economy of Fidel Castro's revolutionary government fell to a trickle and then dried up entirely after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

"We need to reestablish positions on Cuba and in other countries," news agency Interfax quoted Putin as saying at the weekly presidium meeting of key government ministers.

Just 144 km (90 miles) from the coast of U.S. state of Florida, Cuba still has no formal diplomatic ties with Washington D.C.

At the height of the Cold War in 1962, a two-week crisis over Soviet missiles on the island nearly led to full-blown war.

Putin's remarks came after Russian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin reported on a recent three-day visit to Cuba, where he discussed a raft of trade and investment issues and met with Raul Castro, Fidel's brother and now the island's leader.

"We agreed on a priority direction for cooperation, this being energy, the mining industry, agriculture, transport, health care and communications," news agency RIA quoted Sechin as saying.
