My Hopes Regarding President Obama

Last night I was pretty depressed. I cried when John McCain conceded. I prayed for our newly elected President Obama, and for our country.
I started thinking about this man with the paper thin record, and thinking of his words, "I'm a pragmatist", and I started to feel a glimmer of hope. Is it possible that he won't push an ultra liberal socialist agenda? Food for thought, maybe his "present" votes were votes cast so that he wouldn't "tip his hand"? Maybe in good conscious he couldn't vote to the extreme left but knew that if he didn't he could never make it as far as he needed to in the extreme environment where he was traveling up the ladder to the white house?
We really know nothing about this man aside from his thin record. Maybe he won't be the Socialist leader that we expect. Maybe, now that he is in a position of power, he will seek good council and steer our country in the right direction rather than the wrong one.
I'm praying for that, because I don't want to see the country brought to her knees with another great depression and oppressive laws that limit our success and our freedoms.
I think we conservatives should put our money where our mouths are and start praying that this man will see the light, and lead our country well. I much prefer this scenario than the Jimmy Carter scenario on steroids which messes up the country so badly that he will not serve a second term and set the African American cause back for another generation.

Our rights and civil liberties aren't based on a need to demonstrate that we're innocent of anything, or on the premise that they only matter if you're guilty.
You have the right to your opinion about Palin, and so do those who do not agree she was a good pick. I talked to some of my Republican friends, and they were split: Some liked her; some thought she would cost McCain the election.
I think you give the media far too much credit, and you give the American people far too little. MNSBC and CNN often carried Palin's speeches live ... no editing or commentary ... and my take on her was that she thought it was cute to take sarcastic jabs at the Democratic ticket and seemed to believe that catch phrases could win an election. It seems undisputed that she was unable to name a newspaper or magazine that she regularly reads. When asked about Supreme Court cases she disagreed with, she couldn't name one, even though only a couple of months before, she had railed against a decision that affected her state. It was clear that she was clueless about what the Bush Doctrine was. Her incomprehensible statement about Putin flying over Alaska on his way to the U.S. was not fabricated by the media. Other than accusing the media of "gotcha journalism," the McCain-Palin campaign never rolled out any evidence, or even claims, as far as I know, of selective editing or unfair questioning.
There is legitimate debate/discussion to be had over whether either Palin or Obama has more experience. The Republicans attempted to define the terms of that discussion by saying it was EXECUTIVE experience that mattered. Perhaps. OTOH, maybe the experience of being a black man who defied the odds counts for something, too. Maybe working to revitalize disadvantaged communities and promote better education is valuable experience. To be frank, the idea that executive experience, by definition, qualifies one to be a good president is not supported by the last 8 years.
In any case, the people have spoken. I understand those who are upset that Obama won. I've been there. I felt the pain of being genuinely fearful for my country because of who was elected president. And truthfully, now that we can stand here and look back, I think my fears were well-founded. Perhaps those who fear an Obama presidency have well-founded fears, as well. Then again, perhaps not. I really think it would be nice to let the man take the oath of office before we all starting running around like our hair is on fire.
“If, by a ‘liberal,’ they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people – their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties – someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a ‘liberal,’ then I’m proud to say I’m a ‘liberal.’”

>>>Hitler and Fidel Castro were both chosen by the people and elected into power.
Indeed. As were George W. Bush and Dick Cheney.

Just an FYI.... Bush didn't cause the financial crisis the democrats did.... when Nancy Pelosi took over the house a fewyears ago they began with the bad financial policies allowing banks to lend money to uncreditworthy people etc. because she stated "the government will back up these loans".

>>>We will see if his spine is made of steel or my personal theory jell-o.
Just wondering ... Are you HOPING he has steel in his spine or would you prefer to find out it's Jell-o so you can say you were right?

I'm pretty sure that when the Constitution was written that our founding fathers had no idea that they would need to protect us from Islamic fanatics. This is a prime example of Islamic fanatics using our own laws against us, just like they did to the Lebanese people
