Why Obama Won

Obama won on his own terms, strategically and symbolically. He rolled up a series of contested states, from Colorado to Virginia, long out of Democratic reach. And his victory reflected the accuracy of his vision of a reshaped country. Racism, much discussed, turned out to be a footnote, and the African-American voter turnout was nothing spectacular.

It is a great day! Yes, Obama's honesty and sincerity came through to people. We all, except the wealthy, want to see change. Obama gives us hope. It's a new day! It's great to know how many people were immune to the swift-boating, that was tried on Obama. We weren't "fooled twice"! Obama won't make us happy all the time. That isn't possible. He will make mistakes, as he is human, and I'm sure there will be some right-wingers who will be quick to say "I told you so". That's ok. He couldn't possibly do anything worse than Bush has done. Cleaning up his mess won't be easy or popular, but it must be done. I hope the extremeists can put aside their bitterness, and give him a fighting chance.

<< The fear-mongering backfired and actually helped Obama.>>

Exactly. The negativity hurt the Republicans just as it hurt Hillary.

I agree with truetoblue who mentioned Obama's honesty and sincerity. After he spoke last night I told DH, that he is truly different. He doesn't just speak passionately, McCain tried to do that, too. The difference is that Obama really IS passionate about changing our country into one in which we are truly united, a nation that paves the way for a better life for FUTURE generations, not a selfish nation chanting a tax cut mantra for the benefit of today's voters.

I know Obama will turn out to be a great president.

I think there were a lot of factors that entered into why people voted for him and why he won.
