Do you think it is appropriate or inappropriate for high school kids to chant Obama's name (or the name of any political figure for that matter) in the hallway of school in between switching classes?

Unless they were put to it by a teacher or a school official, I don't see anything wrong or inappropriate.

it's all in the eye of the beholder i guess. and i also think it's great that young kids (who can't even vote yet) are learning about the importance of voting and my hopes is that the next generation of voters will get very involved.

It's a heck of a lot better than many other things they could be saying in the school hallways.

I can think of a whole lot of things that are a lot worse than kids chanting a name.

Would it be perhaps more appropriate from your point of view for them to chant McCain, McCain, McCain? My students, largely African American, came in chanting Obama, Obama, Obama today. I didn't see anything wrong with it, they quieted down when they got into the classroom and said the Pledge of Allegiance with pride today. Once I gave them a chance to share their thoughts on the election they were ready to get down to work. All in all it was wonderful to see them so excited and so informed about current events. How can that possibly be wrong?

I guess you could put duct tape over their little mouths.

Hey - I lead a walk out of a classroom in the early 70's as well, and a sit in a few years later. Such a fun time we had those days with civil disobedience. Guess none of our kids can ever run for president! LOL

When and where did this happen?

it shouldn't be school endorsed, or used to antagonize other students, but I don't see how political enthusiasm among our youth is a bad thing.
