Do you think it is appropriate or inappropriate for high school kids to chant Obama's name (or the name of any political figure for that matter) in the hallway of school in between switching classes?

I suppose it will be "released" when the non-existent video of Michelle Obama saying "whitey" will be released and the "THUG" who carved a backwards B into a McCain supporters face is arrested.

We'll all eat lobster and Iranian caviar while we watch the video.

"I am exercising my free speech."

But you seem very intent on stifling the free speech of your students. How sad.

Absolutely. It is wonderful to see the children so enthusiastic about the country in which they live and it's President elect

It's called freedom of speech. As long as they weren't rioting, I see nothing wrong with it.

You really expect kids to ignore the election the day after election day ?

That is very true - we already know.

Is it appropriate for those same kids to chant the name of their football team? Or perhaps another local sports team?

Yeah, it's appropriate. History has been made. It's better than having the Cubs win the World Series (hmm, maybe the curse could be broken now that

In Melanie's defense, they weren't her students. I do agree that it wasn't necessarily her place to moderate a big long discussion about the election, but it DOES seem inappropriate to me that one HA-HA-style outburst has to be the entire beginning and end of post-election discussion for these kids.

When I was a kid growing up in Georgia, I remember how excited everyone was that a Georgian was elected President. I also remember the cold stares I got in 1980 when I put a Reagan sticker on my locker, which almost escalated to vandalism after he won.

I see nothing wrong with chanting the name. Heck, I wish I were a first time voter for this. A moment like this you remember your entire life.
