Just a reminder that those who are so unhappy about Obama being elected President are free to leave the United States and go live someplace else.

Um, that's not really true, and people have the right to be unhappy about the outcome of the election. It's one of our freedoms here in THIS country, a country I chose to stay in despite the last 8 years of misery under the Bush administration. Yes, people are literally "free" to get a passport and a visa and go live somewhere else, but let's be real: There are plenty of circumstances that prevent most people from doing so -- money, family and community ties, job -- not to mention love for one's country. I mean, seriously, are you suggesting that if, for instance, someone is unhappy about the election and also happens to have an elderly parent for whom they must provide care (and who is therefore unable to travel), that person is "free" to pull up stakes and go live in Australia? Not really.

I saw the same line coming out of the posts of jubilant Republicans in the 2004 elections.

Didn't care for it then and don't care for it now. We have a right to feel anger, frustration, and disappointment at the results of political elections. We have a right to express those feelings, provided threats of death or physical violence are not part of the speech. And we have a right to work, within the political system, for constructive change in the next election cycle.

"America, love it or leave it" is not a recipe for either successful conversation or sound governance.

Frankly, I'm not thrilled that Obama won. Then again I wasn't entirely thrilled with either candidate but I still exercised my right to vote for the candidate that was most in line with my views. And now I exercise my right to stay in the country that I was born and raised in despite not being thrilled about the outcome of national (and local) elections where at least I have the right to speak my mind about it without fear. Just because somebody doesn't agree with your opinions on the outcome of an election doesn't make them any less of an American than you. If you can't handle other people's freedom of speech and right to complain then maybe you should leave the country.

Why would they leave? At most Obama is going to be in office for 8 years. That's the beauty of the system of government that we have. People that don't like Bush have survived the last 8 years and people that don't support Obama will survive the next 4-8 as well. As we have a checks and balances system in the US (thankfully) I find it hard to believe that anybody would be so disillusioned over one election that they'd choose to leave. I understand what you are trying to say, really, but to the people on this board that are voters the original post comes off as nothing but an attempt to rub salt in the wounds of the McCain supporters that like it or not are still as American as any Obama supporter on here. I have a bigger problem with those that won't go vote and then still complain (regardless of whether they are Democrats or Republican).

The right had to listen to the left whine for 8 years, turnabout is fair play. LOL
