>>> People go nuts screaming about government run health care, failing to realise the biggest insurance programme in the world is run by the government (social security.) Not my point though...

Have you ever experienced actual government run healthcare like Medicaid? Imagine the DMV, but in charge of something your life may depend on.

>>> there are hundreds of possible ways of setting up a health care system, it need not be as now, and it need not be government provided. Are you saying we aren't intelligent enough to figure this out? That we must accept what is, because we are incapable of forming a better system?

If there were a lot of other viable solutions, then we'd see them being successful all around the globe...but we don't.

>>> There is a lot of inherent waste in the system, and the money flows to places in excess, where it need not go in such amounts.

That's a byproduct of government bureaucracy and will be inherent in any government run program.

>>> Instead of tossing your hands up and saying "see, it doesn't work!" offer solutions. I can give you one possible private means of doing it, if you care to hear it.

If you want a glimpse into the future, google Hawaii's universal health care program for children...and read about why it failed after only 7 months.

The biggest problem with insurance companies is that people's lives and their health are tied to THEIR PROFITS. So, people can and do DIE because of their refusal to pay. Yet their CEO's are making multi million dollar salaries.

Now I read where Medicare is going to have cuts in 2009, Thank you Bush, gotta pay for your wars. Seniors will get less for more money.
