Yes, it was me who said I would not participate in the presidential election process, and I didn't.

If I had any amount of trust in the process, I would have voted Libertarian.

I think we need to continue to offer treatment for addiction, because success in that area will benefit society, but lines MUST be drawn.

Apparently they don't do it very well...and their system doesn't sound appealing.

You keep saying this, but the evidence suggests otherwise. Look at it another way... their health care system covers everyone - and is healthier than our system is.

And you mention 'systems proven ineffective elsewhere.'

People most certainly run afoul of private insurers as well.

Easy to do when you don't have to provide for national defense.

Checkmate. You raised the issue of GDP, attempting to make it sound astounding Canada paid over ten percent... but it turns out we pay 50% more.

The answer of course is that we don't have to either - if we change our policies long term. We antagonised a world, small wonder. Or is this were we flow into America defends Canada and that Americans died for Canada?

We've danced around this before, haven't we?

People lose their homes when health care bills come due. The system doesn't give it away free. It may not collect it, but it will try to destroy the lives of those it just helped attempting recovery.

And such a system precludes preventative care, which can really rachet down major health care costs later.

You are right, nobody is denied health care in our country, BUT because Dr's and hospitals are required by law to treat the un-insured, the price goes up for those who ARE insured. I don't know why people do not understand this. We have had such an influx of illegals coming into our country, getting help for free, no wonder they keep coming!

I am saying that I've had personal experience, as well as observing the experiences of others close to me, who have run afoul of government run systems like unemployment, medicaid and welfare. And these weren't just simple errors that were quickly cleared up...these were errors that resulted in the immediate loss of benefits that put people's lives (personal circumstances, not biological) at risk. And the solution of the caring government workers?...screw your life, get back in line and fill the forms out again...hope you can survive in the interim. Personally, I'd rather my health care didn't work the same way.

Unfortunately, I've had similar experiences - with my private insurance company.

There is no fail-safe system.
