I'm just so flabbergasted I don't know what to say. Of COURSE this posturing on Russia's part has been going on for some time. I find it hard to believe that there are those that are saying that this "sudden" turn of events is in order to SPECIFICALLY test Obama.

It totally floors me that such background ignorance about what goes on in the world makes it possible for some to make, and even more incredibly, find people who will so readily believe such disengenuous claims.

Russia is testing AMERICA (as nations have been doing for generations and undoubtedly will continue to do as long as it remains the world's superpower) and actually, they like to test the waters with the rest of the western world as well. They have been doing this for quite some time now and have made numerous such saber rattling threats in recent years. I thought this would have been common knowledge, particularly by those who are so fearful and paranoid about the safety of America. Russia would have made this announcement REGARDLESS of who won the election this week (with a minor wording change....saying McCain instead of Obama). It's just a continuation of what's been going on already for months and months and MONTHS (before Obama even threw his hat int the ring).

Good grief! I've really gotta get off this board for a while or my head will just explode in total disbelief.

Yeah, I pity the poor Russian pilot that would try to fly into the US today.

That's true and I think his reaction will be well-informed and measured. He won't let America get pushed around but I think he also knows that it would be the most foolhardy thing to allow the relationship with Russia to devolve into any sort of war (not something I could be confident about if McCain were at the helm). What an utter nightmare a war with Russia would be.

Oh....Me too, for about 2-3 years now (at LEAST). That situation really IS a threatening, and at some point will HAVE to be dealt with. I actually believe it should have been already instead of squandering resources in Iraq. It has the closest link/relationship of any ongoing concern in the War on Terror and if America is ever attacked again, I think that Pakistan will figure prominently among those responsible.

Well.....Obviously (but much to my utter amazement, not to everyone).

The big difference is.....That Obama will be inclined to TAKE their advice and/or give it a fair and open-minded hearing and a lot of careful consideration even if it conflicts with his desires or "agenda". Therefore , it's not the military advisors that's ever been the issue but the one being advised.

Wouldn't it have been MORE of a coincidence had they waited a few months until Obama had actually been sworn in, getting the authority/responsibility to do something about it?

Could it not be that "coincidentally" it's happening now because it's the last chance for the US to make yet another bone-headed move before the bush presidency is finally relegated to the dust-bin of history?
