>>>>It just means half black and half white,

I'm afraid you're incorrect. You're oversimplifying the term. The origin of the word is spanish - mulato, meaning small mule and is quite possibly a reference to mixed origin of mules Which is insulting. This term is not universally accepted. It is TECHNICALLY not in use any longer.

I voted for Obama but did not do so because of his ancestry. For those who wish to belittle his ability to adopt unpopular positions which were later proved prescient (the war in Iraq, for example), speak coherently, think on his feet and communicate a more nuanced world view than "us versus them", the race factor must be handy.

But his mixed blood has hardly been the "high point" of his candidacy.

"He is almost universally referred to as an African American, which gives the impression that that is all he is."

Yes. And I believe that was fully illustrated.

If I were able to vote in your country, those are the reasons I would give as well. His race would have figured way WAAAY way way way WAAAAYY down on the list. In fact, it is of such little consequence that it wouldn't have even BEEN on my list.

I don't know of anyone that based their vote on either candidate's race. Firstly, I am more conservative than liberal, so that is where my vote is going.

Obama's being against the war is a big negative for me, and he was also wrong on the surge. The fact that he admits that, but would still vote against the surge is a little scary to me.

Being a disaster as a president depends on your point of view. I'm sure Obama's presidency will be considered a disaster from a conservative point of view. I'm sure many liberals consider the Bush presidency a disaster, which I can understand. I don't have that point of view, and would certainly vote for him again.

The thing that scares me about Obama is that I think he is in over his head, and his desire the meet with terrorist nations/leaders could get a lot of people killed, 9/11 style. That would be a disaster.
