Obama's girls have a nice school to attend; if public education is so great, how come his girl's don't go to public school?

If the custodian continuously fails to ensure school attendance they should no longer have custody of that child.
Wow.
We have mandated children be educated and passed certain laws. Those not doing it are breaking the law. Why should we continue to allow law-breaking people continue to have custody of minor children?
The question remains - what would happen to those children?
And again, how does that indicate a school is failing in it's responsibility?
Thank you, nicole_ftm for my siggy!
If your child and my child are in the same grade I believe that comparison is quite reasonable. If we are just going to have each student have individual standards there is no longer any point in having grade level.
Anecdotally, I have children in consecutive years of school.
"Additionally, students who are in transition are required to take the test. That is, a student who moves into a district in February takes the test in March, and may be moving again in May. The school is accountable for that child's test scores."
First this is bordering on educational neglect. But even if you didn't think it was, if the child is on grade level why would this matter? Where exactly are these student transitioning to?
First, the requirements of NCLB do not demand every child perform the same. They require a minimal standard of compentency depending upon grade level. If your public school is able to meet the needs of your children to include passing the required minimal standards, I am happy for you. I wish I could say the same for my public school.
What better way would you advocate determining a school's effectiveness other than whether students are learning to a minimal standard?

If I am not mistaken the Federal budget for education is higher than ever.
Also as an aside, the per pupil spending for public education is about $10,000-$11,000. The private school DD attends spends about $5,000. It sounds like money isn't the answer to all of the woes of education.
"I'll ignore the sarcasm. Yes, of course her opinion is different from those who run our federal department of education (which, by the way, is unconstitutional). "
My state has already attempted this unconstitutional argument in Federal court. The case was tossed out.
