Obama's girls have a nice school to attend; if public education is so great, how come his girl's don't go to public school?

>>> I don't think the test assesses learning. I think it assesses test-taking.

You can't pass the test if you didn't learn the material...and most children who have learned the material can pass the test.

>>> There are other tests designed to tweak out an individual child's strengths and weaknesses that have been used for decades. This test doesn't do that at all. It is not helpful to children in anyway.

It isn't an aptitude test, it's a test of acquired knowledge. It helps children by letting the teacher/school/state know whether the child has acquired the requisite knowledge.

>>> I'd like to see a well-rounded way of evaluating schools including observations, portfolio assessment, student and teacher interviews, etc. Tests are "one-size-fits-all" and they do not fit many.

They fit most. It doesn't matter what route she took, but at the end of the year, little Suzy has to be able to read and write...and reading and writing are pretty standardized practices.

The school should be accountable for the whereabouts of it's students when it accepts custody of them at 8AM. The students, obviously, are also accountable for their attendance.

If the child refuses to voluntarily attend school, then they should be temporarily institutionalized where attendance would be forced. I think most kids would have a quick change of heart.

Well BO continues in the proud tradition of don't do as I do, do as I say with regards to public education.

His little punishments shall be attending Sidwell Friends.

I'm sure his children will do just fine.

Most of the kids of hypocritical Washington politicians attend schools like this (a la Chelsea Clinton). We certainly wouldn't want BO to change this tradistion, now would we?

I have never, ever seen so much interest and controversy about where a President or anyone else sends their kids to school.

You must have slept through Bill Clinton's Presidency. He and Hillary displayed the same hypocrisy which was duly noted.

So perhaps more people should avoid those cesspools. But then, how would all those teachers who support BO keep their jobs and union benefits?
