Obama's girls have a nice school to attend; if public education is so great, how come his girl's don't go to public school?

Obama's problem isn't with testing, its with testing as the sole means of determining academic progress or whether or not a school is "failing" -- which is what "improve assessments" is all about.

How else would you make that determination? Personal evaluations are impossible.

Schools exist to educate. What other objective methods of measuring educational progress should be used? BO doesn't actually mention any.

Authentic assessment is entirely possible.

NCLB imposes the same bar for students on tests which are not the same.

>>> Authentic assessment is entirely possible.

Sounds like more voodoo education. How can you give an authentic assessment of calculus? Or advanced lit? Or history? I also think it's dangerous to allow individual teachers to devise the AA tests.

>>> Standardized tests are one component. But as kids aren't uniform, neither is meeting their needs.

Math, English, Science and History are uniform. They contain processes and facts that you either know or don't know...and the "needs" of the kids is to know.

That is very cool! It is also the school which was recommended by Laura Bush. Several past president's children have attended that school, so why shouldn't Obama's? It seems they'll pick on every little decision made by the Obama's. How sad, to want to discredit someone so badly, they'll grasp at anything. The girls were attending a private school in Chicago, so why not in Washington?

Do you, or did you, find it hypocritical of the other president's who sent their children to

How did he remove the funding that the public schools would get from his children attending them?

It didn't! It's the same in Illinois as in NJ. Children attending private school's, take nothing away from public schools. Except maybe some overcrowding!
