Obama's girls have a nice school to attend; if public education is so great, how come his girl's don't go to public school?

Amazing how so many of us survived to adulthood while entering school at the ripe old age of 5.

I am not thrilled with this daycare idea, first what exactly does this have to do with education? Secondly, why is this a matterfor the US government?

When did Obama ever "preach" against private schools ?

BO is a big supporter of public schools, and thinks we should not just throw our hands up and walk away from them (by supporting vouchers.)

He says this while walking away from them.

Your statement about Obama's opinion on vouchers is incorrect:

""I don't think anyone can call him a voucher supporter out of this, but it is an intriguing response," Mr. Williams said. "It is a different kind of answer than most of us are used to hearing from politicians."

Mr Williams is right .... BO isn't a supporter of vouchers. He says he supports public education, for children other than his.

You say that, but according to the article I posted, he's open to vouchers if they appear to achieve measurable results.

Zero to Five Plan: Obama and Biden will create Early Learning Challenge Grants to promote state "zero to five" efforts and help states move toward voluntary, universal pre-school.

I'm not a big fan of this plan.

This is not what he said in the clip I posted.

You can rest assured there will never be a "measureable result" good enough for BO to endorse vouchers.

As an aside, BO's VP-elect Joseph Biden also follows our soon to be fearless leader in don't do as I do, do as I say with regards to public schools. His son went here .... http://www.archmereacademy.com/

"hen you have an area in the country--and most often here we are talking about inner cities--where the public schools are abysmal or dysfunctional or not working and where most of the children have no way out, it is legitimate to ask what would happen to the public schools with increased competition from private schools and what would happen to the quality of education for the children who live there." 13. "District of Columbia Appropriations Act," Congressional Record, September 30, 1997, p. S10192.

Heaven forbid private schools might compete with public schools .... never mind that the schools are "abysmal or dysfunctional or not working and where most of the children have no way out", keep as many children in them as possible. Children other than mine, that is.

I sense that the pro-voucher crowd has a serious chip on its shoulder over wealthier people sending their children to private schools.

We must have grown up in the same non-liberal neighborhood. ; ) But to be fair, one thing that REALLY hurts working mothers is the cost of daycare. If it can be made cheaper, even with government subsidies or tax breaks, then the mothers/families can make ends meet without going on the dole, which is better for everyone in the long run.
