I realize that it was a generalization. You probably don't fall into the segment of the population I was referring to (I apologize to anyone that doesn't fit). This is an observation on my part. I also think the way news is covered there and the US media doesn't help. It seems designed to scare the cr@p out of people and I think that for many, it appears to be working.
Ya know, I was pleased top find somebody who could discuss a controversial topic w/o resorting to stupid stuff. But I was wrong. You're deliberately being dense, as a way of arguing your point. Fercryin'outloud, he isn't going to say "Oh, that gun? I knowingly sold it to a felon." And there's not likely a receipt as evidence. With the proposed law, he couldn't just get away with saying it was stolen.
I was saddened at my book group last night, which centered on a book about a school shooting, to hear one person say she's scared of the big crowds in sports stadiums, and another claimed she was scared to go to a really big Obama rally. This would never cross my mind.
Sigh. A woman was murdered on the street, 500 feet away from my house Sunday night, and I slept through it. So did all my neighbors, as far as I know. A domestic killing, not random, but it still means seriously icky people were hanging around my block. It's a horrible feeling. Huge headline this AM. That poor woman. I do lock my doors. I live in a working class neighborhood in a small city.
Whatever...this just gives the deviants a reason to stock an arsenal. I pray they are responsible and lock them up. President-Elect Obama won't stop us from owning guns, but who needs an AK-47? Surely not that crazy guy that killed that child on Halloween. Very sad. I don't think that a hand gun would have fired 12 bullets. I plan on getting a gun since the economy has gotten worse, it's not as safe to go out alone and unprepared
It's sad to hear about the killing. I've heard that domestic disputes are one of the most dangerous/unpredictable situations that the police have to respond to. Many people are killed by folks that they know and the statistics on wives and/or girlfriends being killed by their significant others are shocking. This seems to happen to people in all walks of life, all neighbourhoods and income brackets. It's highly likely that the murderer was only targeting a specific person and this was a crime of "passion"....It's likely that they would not be a danger to the general public (though I'd certainly think twice about contemplating a relationship with such a person....and I hope they are prosecuted and pay the price for their crime so they never get a chance to do such a thing again).

Gun sales in our state rose rapidly last year, and BO wasn't responsible.
