OK. Last round. WHAT's already against the law? Without the straw law, the straw can just say, "Oh, I lost that gun." Conversation over. No proof of his having committed a crime. No punishment.
Why are you so obviously against this law? We have lots of laws that overlap. This one does not errode the rights of any law-abiding gun owner. Would you report a stolen gun? Would you report a stolen TV? So only criminals would break this law. That's the idea! They can be caught.
The only thing I have against this law is that I don't see it accomplishing what it's purpose supposedly is, and results as being just another useless or at least largely useless law.
They'll be caught ONLY if you catch the buyer with a firearm which can be traced back to the original owner.
Yeah, I did think of that. I suppose the purchaser could go to his bedside drawer and say "OMG! Somebody stole it!" But the law would be by no means useless.
Another legislation that failed would have limited the number of purchases in a month, to some number I've forgotten but considered reasonable. Not all would agree, I'm sure...
You've noticed that I'm not exactly pro-gun, but I love your turkey. Can I email him to a few friends, if it works?
