>>> Do you think that the Secret Service didn't then have a greater number of "threats" to investigate as a result of Palin's stoking the hate in the base?
No more than they would have regarding Obama's lies about McCain. But even if there were, it's not Palin's fault for telling the truth about Obama.
After reading the OP, I have to agree that it's mere opinion.
If I wanted to, I could have written a similar opinion piece on anyone, since it's not backed up with verifiable fact/source. To me it's fiction, peppered
>>> Palin's remarks were made specificially to rile up the base,
So were Obama's.
>>> and the base (according to the article in the OP) included some jaded nutcases.
The Democrat base obviously includes a high percentage of nutcases...they were swayed by a neophyte chanting "hope and change."
>>> I am glad that the Secret Services is on the job.
Me too, but it's a shame they had to waste their time on lies and false reports.
>>> I do think that McCain probably didn't want his supporters to go as far as they did with the threats.
Really? I hear McCain carried a gun in case he ever bumped into Obama. LOL! But seriously...McCain is an honorable man and, unlike Obama, I heard him chastise his crowds on more than one occasion. I also never heard about any real threats that came from McCain supporters. Sounds like more Dem propaganda.
>>> I think that if Obama had been assassinated by one of Palin's followers, he would have felt somewhat responsible.
I doubt it. Both McCain and Palin told the truth about Obama. If someone wanted to assassinate Obama, they're obvioiusly looney, but far from it being McCain/Palin's fault, the fault belongs to Obama for being the kind of person he is.
My understanding is that there were 2 rallies ... one was proven wrong (Scranton), after that the media of both dropped but main stream media never carried the proven wrong stories ... which is no surprised.
Sounds like more of that 'if you're not for us you're against us' mentality. Not to mention a bit of the blinders on/head in the sand thinking. Makes you wonder about the future of the republican party. They had better hope Obama stays very safe because after all the cries of messiah from the right before he was elected now that he has been elected there is the very real possibility of him reaching martyr status if he is killed. I would not want to think of the long term consequences for out country if that were to happen.

I am amazed at the attacks on Palin, after the election is over.

ust place blame where it belongs...on the nuts who want to harm others.
Nuts don't develop their ideas in a vacuum. The ideas may be hidden prejudices which gain legitimacy when leaders verbalize them.
We should be taking a good hard look at role of right wing hate radio.
because we still among very racist people believe he and his family would be at greater risk that most Presidential families.
