I think he is to blame for a lot of the mess we are in now.

Well if Obama does anything good the republicans will say "it is because of Bush got it started" if Obama makes a mistake the republicans will say it is all Obama's fault. Here is how I feel if there are mistakes in the first two years Bush will be partially to blame. After the first two years it will be all the dems doing since they are the ones who will have control of house and senate. Just like years 3 thru 6 is mostly republicans fault for all thier mistakes since they had control of presidency , house and senate. Just like this economic crisis I think most of the blame should be put on republicans but some needs to be put on the democrats for having two years of control in the house and senate. Some of the democrats said there was nothing wrong with fanny may and freddie mac boy were they wrong!

What I didn't understand about Bush being elevated to hero in the wake of September 11th was everyone seemed to conveniently forget that it happened on HIS WATCH.

From John Dean's book, Worse Than Watergate:

"During the transition period, Bush and Cheney learned more about the terrorism problem.

Of course it wasn't something we didn't already know.

One reason it took so long to address the serious threat of al Qaeda was due to "Bush and Cheney's blanket rejection of any idea -- however good -- that had come out of the Clinton administration."

The mark of true ideologues. You can see the same thing on this board-ideologues rejecting everything Obama because he doesn't fit their ideology, he isn't even sworn in yet. Hopefully Obama won't make this same mistake and automatically reject anything that comes from Bush.

Personally I suspect that history will judge Clinton as middle of the pack in his accomplishments, he had some bad, some good accomplishments. Overall he'll be judged slightly below the middle because of Monica.

For myself he should have resigned after he beat the impeachment charge.

I personally like Andy Rooney's take:

HOw far back does 'blame' go when things are going wrong? I mean, at some point, a person, or administration, has to assume responsibility for the choices its making - I'm not responsible for what my ancestors did -

"If left to my own devices, I'd spend all my time pointing out that he's weaker than bus-station chili. But the man is so constantly subjected to such hideous and unfair abuse that I wind up standing up for him on the general principle that some fairness should be applied. Besides, no one but a fool or a Republican ever took him for a liberal." ---Molly Ivins, on Bill Clinton.
