Is this something you agree with or disagree with?

I did not view that as art, it was a threat.

Using this part of the policy...

Racial harassment is defined as conduct or action that is based on a person's race or color and creates a hostile environment that prevents effective learning or work performance.

They should have thrown the NAACP off the campus grounds.

Under the law, you are wrong.

On the one hand, I am against things like "free speech zones" or "freedom of expression tunnels" -- since, after all, it implies you don't have any freedom of speech in other zones. That seems entirely contrary to the spirit of academia. I am also against legislation for "hate crimes" -- whether or not a crime is premeditated matter, but whatever motivated you doesn't necessarily make it better or worse.

On the other hand, I think suggesting someone murder our president elect is not appropriate, and -- without knowing what their bylaws actually say -- I would think a university would be within their rights to put them on probation. And certainly, I would hope the other students would exercise THEIR freedom of speech to decry these utterly racist and despicable behaviors.

A dear friend is the president of the local chapter, and she is hardly a racist - but she is a sweet, caring, loving, human being.

I thought it was against the law to threaten a President.

Thank you for finding that information. I think the university policy is quite clear. Dismissal is in order. Whether students are free to 'express' their right to free speech is one thing - that fact is the manner in which they decided to express those rights was in violation of the university policy. There were other, less offensive, ways for them to express their feelings about the outcome of the election.

So you feel that a school should have to make rules about racism – otherwise anything goes?
