the lack of reaction from the NAACP towards Jesse Jackson and what he said outloud on TELEVISION to millions of viewers?? (That he thinks Obama, whom he referred to as a n#%$, should have his genitals cut off).

Thank you for a very well thought out and informative post.

The point I disagree on is this:

The school's policy

Perhaps because you're not part of a group of individuals who have felt that fear, you have no idea why that sort of thing is not protected speech.

Why do we not permit full frontal nudity, sex acts, nor certain types of language on network TV, especially before 10 pm? Is it OK to fine a network for Janet Jackson's breast baring episode but permit these boys to walk for making a racial slur?

There is only one reason to make those statements--because they knew the reaction, they knew some would react with fear. Why would they have made those public statements otherwise?

Should I be

I disagree. They are both the same and neither should, or should have been tolerated.

I disagree. They are both equally despicable, and should have not been tolerated, and should not be tolerated.

I don't think people should be free to threaten other people.

I wouldn't have my kids at that university if they allowed these mentally disturbed students to stay. I don't think expulsion is drastic in the least. These were death threats. Anyone who would write something like this in a public place isn't all there. I wouldn't want my kids going to school with them. I would fear for their safety.

I would exercise my freedom of speech with my feet!

Ebony, I don't think the writings were ok either.
