Really?

I have a question that I did not bring up during pre-election times for a couple of different reasons.

For those of you who voted for Obama:

Can you please explain to me how you voted for a president who has voted in favor of partial-birth abortion?

I am not talking about first term abortion, so please don't bring other things up.

I want to know ONLY how you found it OK to vote for a president who supports partial-birth abortion.

It is my understanding that he voted against that ban because there was already one in place, and the wording of it was very vague...

Hmmmm, perhaps you meant how can we vote for a president who supports protecting the health of the mother?

Because d & x never should have been banned; because it is rarely used, and most often in health adverse situations.

Sorry, I am a choicer all the way.

Because the PBA ban is a badly worded law that has made it difficult for women to obtain an intact D&X for a dead fetus. Imagine being told that that only way your much wanted but recently departed fetus could be removed from your body legally was in bits so that you would not have the body to hold to say good-bye.

Apparently it's necessary to couch the question in the most inflammatory and provocative way possible, then reproach voters for not buying the trumped up stuff in the first place. Ick. Given that approach, I'm amazed that you had any qualms about raising PBA before.

According to HotToddysMama's link, Obama stated: "All I've said is we should have a provision to protect the health of the mother, and many of the bills that came before me didn't have that."

I wonder why it is "OK" for the pro-life group to disregard the health of the pregnant mother? If her health is in jeopardy she should still carry the fetus to term - but then who raises the baby? What about the fact that if the mother dies - while still pregnant the baby will as well? So are we only 'pro-life' for the unborn? No 'pro-life' for the already born?

Others have summed it up well, but I'd also like to add that in the words of my very pro-life mother "I voted on the issue of abortion for years and look what it got me... George Bush." And a war that has killed untold thousands, which I hardly find pro-life at all.

I don't agree with every decision Obama has made. But I also don't believe McCain was a very pro-life candidate, if that was what you were going for.

To me, abortion is a health issue and not a political one. If a woman and her physician agree on a course of action, it should be covered by health insurance the same as any female procedure should be, whether that insurance is government insurance or private insurance.

Abortion is simply not an voter's issue for me when we have so many big governmental responsibilities we need to worry about--failing economy, wars, global acceptance of the U.S, decaying infrastructure and homeland security.

His stance on abortion had nothing to do with why I voted for him.
