Sometimes I wonder where these comedians like Bill Maher got their schooling.

I haven't seen the show where he says this, but I do know that Maher is a knowledgeable guy. I also know he does a lot of research before he discusses an issue, so I'm pretty sure he knew the difference between the House of Reps and the Senate. Perhaps he believes that we should be represented in a different way -- based only on population, but I highly doubt he didn't know that each state has 2 Senators. JMHO.

We still don't know the context of his statement.

I agree with you on Maher. some of the things he says I have to roll my eyes and think, "Did he really just say that"? But, a lot of the time he is right on on what he says. I don't remember him saying that, if he did, I missed it.

Having defended Maher for probably well knowing that each state has two senators, I'd like to note that his commentary may have missed a huge point*. The Senate is based on representation by state (regardless of demographics), the House is based on representation by population. We have a bicameral system just to make sure that there is a degree of balance for both states and their inhabitants.

*don't get HBO, didn't see the piece, maybe you can verify

Yeah, I've cringed at some of his humor. He's fond of sticking a very pointed barb into areas we consider sacrosanct or beyond questioning. And that's his point (pun intended). When we stop questioning, when our logic becomes rigid, our thinking stagnant, it's a surefire recipe for trouble.

Maher's big question is the same one as that of most two-year olds. WHY?
