So why do the big three have to beg and have a plan yet?

I don't get it either. Just because the financial instruments causing all the problems are obscure to most of the general public, while cars are not, it seems the financial wizards think they can trick us into believing Armageddon is upon us if we don't help the financial institutions.

I thought it was a joke that all the congressmen were giving the auto CEOs a hard time for having flown to DC on corporate jets. As if no Goldman Sachs, Bear Stearns or Lehman Bros. exec have ever flown that distance on a private aircraft.

In today's paper someone noted that when we are complaining about employers not offering group health care insurance to their employees, why are we complaining about the high cost of benefits the unions ask for?

I was against the bailout of the financial firms, but now that we've given them megabucks with few strings attached, why can't we loan the auto companies a much smaller amount? If the financial industry hadn't been bailed out, then I'd say no to the auto companies, too.

Apparently the auto companies weren't making as many political contributions. That's the only explanation I can think of, disgusting as it is.

IMHO, the car companies are "paying" for the mistakes made by both the stupid Detroit CEOs that

"Why do financial institutions get a bailout but not the big three whom employes and keeps Michigan union workers working?"

Pure speculation but our problems started in the financial sector which means they would have gotten easier treatment.

The Big 3 will probably get a bail out, but they need to demonstrate that sufficient changes have taken place in management and operations so that the money won't just be a 5 month loan, leaving the company in exactly the same place, asking for money, a few months down the road.

It is rather amusing to hear the CEOs of the Big Three plan their way back to Washington. I half expect them to walk now.
