That is really very interesting, thank you. I've always been taken with the flexibility and potential of the brain.

I found this very interesting too. Not just because it IS interesting, but because my youngest son has a learning disorder.

Have you considered trying this program? If you don't mind me asking.

I get very annoyed, when conservatives post what they perceive as the norm for liberals, but are clueless! Why do conservatives assume single mother's all are asking for handouts, or even that all single mother's were unwed?! Just look at Palin's daughter, to know conservative girl's get pregnant also! I was a single parent for many, many years. I didn't receive child support, and I never asked for, or needed a handout! BTW, why do you think all the babies would be born out of wedlock? I'm married, and we still have sex! Just imagine, only unwed couples all across America, had sex that night! LOL!

Why do conservatives think all liberal women would get abortions, if we became pregnant? I don't believe they are really that uninformed about us. They should open their minds to the concept of being pro-CHOICE. Not pro-abortion, as they like to claim. If Mrs. Obama should get pregnant, they just might be happy about it. What a concept! I have never heard either of them say one word about being pro-abortion, quite the contrary. I don't know of anyone who chooses to have an abortion, who has done so cavalierly.

LOL, just proves what I have always thought. All psychiatrists are a little crazy themselves! Obviously some are nuttier than others!!

If we can't get him thrown out before he takes office, we will seek to have him impeached. We will file lawsuits to prevent him enacting his Communist theories. For the Marxist/Muslim who got elected by hypnotizing dumbed down America, by accepting millions from our enemies overseas and by the voter fraud perpetrated by ACORN, THERE WILL BE NO PEACE. NEVER.

What communist theories are you referring to? What makes you think he's a Marxist? I haven't heard him say anything, that wasn't misinterpreted by conservatives, that would cause you to label him. Geez, he isn't a Muslim. He attends a Christian church. That church has a huge number of congregants; many of whom are Caucasian. He hasn't hypnotized anyone, and we have our eyes wide open...that's why we didn't vote for McCain. I would put my level of intelligence up to any conservative's. The only dumbing down, has been in our schools. It's terrible our young people aren't learning any civics anymore. They have no clue how our government works.

What voter fraud did ACORN perpetrate? I didn't hear of anyone trying to vote under a fake name. No Mickey Mouse. Signing non-existent people up, is not voter fraud. Not until someone tries to vote using one of those names. ACORN,

Actually, no....Not until you suggested it because I'd only heard of this last week. So I have to thank you for making the suggestion that I investigate further. Initially, it just interested me generally but gave me a little hope that someone with such wide-ranging learning issues could go on to not just function well in society, but to do something extraordinary (that, and because my son's problem also arises due to problems with brain's structure...ie. the left side and the right side are not "connected" as well, or the same as a "normal" person's).

So, unlike a chemical imbalance which may be "fixed" with medication and because the LD impacts so MANY things, from social to certain learning problems, I was devastated when I learned the diagnosis (as it seems to be without hope and can get worse with age as the material learned gets more complex and interconnected....while the social deficits impacts the way in which he copes with frustration and relates to others). In the testing, he came out quite intelligent in certain areas (brilliant in fact)....but this is not carrying out in his daily life or even his school performance (it is impacting his self-esteem and attitude towards school in general - and later, probably his employment prospects). Because he actually IS intelligent (and not severely impacted...that anyone can see anyway), the usual school strategies and special programs available are not right for him. He'd do poorly in an environment of children who are obviously mentally handicapped and a school/programs for those with bad behavioral problems would be a huge mistake too (as he is would copy their maladjusted behavioural issues). He just doesn't seem to fit anywhere.

They didn't say in the documentary I watched, what the Barbara Arrowsmith's LD was either, nor did they go into detail as to what LDs the school are able to help. So I'd not really considered the info on a personal level (and in fact, I even thought this was an American school).

However, you got me really curious so I went to their website to look a few things up and see if I can find out more. :o)

There are quite a number of issues on this list that my son struggles with:
http://www.arrowsmithschool.org/description.htm

As for the admission criteria....I think he may even qualify.

Here is a snippet about price (out of our league sorry to say)...but certainly worth looking into, particularly in terms of types of programs, teaching strategies exercises etc....

Enrollment and tuition at Arrowsmith School

The annual tuition fee for the 2009 - 2010 school year is $21,000 and includes all program and academic fees and materials for the full school year. The $21,000 tution fee includes an activity fee of $250 that covers such things as the school yearbook, school trips and other special events. There are no other fees or charges. Tuition fees are not subject to the Goods and Services Tax or Provincial Sales Tax.

The tuition amount qualifies for the Medical Expense Tax Credit under the Income Tax Act (Canada). This credit is available to Canadian taxpayers only. In certain circumstances, transportation and additional living expenses may qualify for the Medical Expense Tax Credit.

This is a significant tax credit which will, for example, based on the above tuition amount result in an estimated tax saving of approximately $3,500 for a two-parent family family with two children, one of whom attends Arrowsmith School and having a combined annual income of $100,000. Please refer to the additional information contained under the Tax Creditheading above. We recommend that families in all cases contact their own accountant or financial advisor.
