I didn't twist. Pointed out that the wording was imprecise and therefore open to interpretation--and pointed out how that could happen.

Moreover, I am not limited to your vocabulary choices and am free to use other adjectives to make my case. At no time, did I misquote you, so the "nice try" comment is unnecessarily snide.

Do you have any information of how much state money (i.e. state gas taxes) went to repair the bridge?

Then why raise the state's gas tax to fix this problem when interstates are federal issues?

"Does anybody remember July? Does anybody really want to be subjected to another cycle of daily increases in fuel? "

I'm not sure what happened over the last 18 months.

The usual suspects according to your article, politics and the green weenies:

"Despite historic highs in transportation spending, the political muscle of lawmakers, rather than dire need, has typically driven where much of the money goes. That has often meant construction of new, politically popular roads and transit projects rather than the mundane work of maintaining the worn-out ones.

Further, transportation and engineering experts said, lawmakers have financed a boom in rail construction that, while politically popular, has resulted in expensive transit systems that are unused by the vast majority of American commuters.

Yes, and those would, ultimately, have been Gov. Pawlenty's decisions. Way to go repubs!

I have a firm belief the green-weenie applauded him when he spent that money for bike paths instead of bridge repair.

While I, likewise, have a firm belief that Gov. Pawlenty abdicated his responsibility when he made the choice to NOT repair the bridge although there had been serious concerns about it's safety for some time - more of that compassionate conservativism in action I guess. Another example of penny wise and pound foolishness - just how much money will the families get in the lawsuit? Money that could have been used to repair other roads and bridges.

I think Republicans consider it "a cost of doing business."
