Couched in terms of "retention payments,"

Yeah, I'm soo happy that we are paying for this with no restrictions on their payscales.
Give them free money but don't give the Auto Industry a "loan."
BTW, Congress is getting a 5000 dollar raise at the beginning of the year, how wonderful for them.
Actually, this is fairly common in bankruptcies to make "retention payments" to people.
The theory, at least, is that if they aren't made, the individuals can get better-paying jobs elsewhere and will leave, leaving the company with a difficult-to-fill hole at a crucial time.
However, as one individual I saw last week noted, when someone in his company said "If we don't pay bonuses, people will leave" noted "Where are they going to go?"
AIG again manages to shame the industry.
This sort of thing is what happens when you don't do a good job of eliminating loopholes and tossing upper management out on their collective rears before tossing any money toward the company.
Yup, as the article below points out, if you want gov't to give you billions...
"try to have problems that are too complicated for most people to understand. And make sure your employees are the kind who wear a suit to work every day. Once you've satisfied those two requirements, ask for as much as you want: The coffers are open."

Given we own 70% of the company, I would love to see Obama pick up the phone at 8 am on 1/21 and fire every corporate officer.
That would prove a hugely popular action.
On a different political note, McConnell's comments on auto workers was unconscionable. Small wonder Republicans had their lunch handed to them in the last two elections.

Do you have a link that responsible AIG execs. have been terminated?
Are these the same people arranging faux finances that are bonuses, or party time that has now happened twice since the bail out?
