I think this Gaffney should be tied to a pole and let all the people who lost loved ones throw whatever at him! Cheney also!

Even though I initially defended Bush and his decision to invade Iraq due to the threat of the presumed Iraqi WMD program, I also knew and stated here many times

I'm sorry but this is the kind of idiocy on the right that really gets me worked up. This kind of poop is what the right-wing is about these days. It's totally forgotten who it's supposed to be and chucked it all out the window. Now we have a warped Fox-fed non-conservative big government, big spending, fiscally irresponsible, interventionist bunch of corrupt, inept, hypocritical, morally screwed up Republican politicians who want to meddle in our private lives and spy on all of us. And now let me tell you how I really feel . . . . :)

I'll tell you what has started to happen and what will happen to these sorry Fox Republican politicos:

""Augustus Gloop! Augustus Gloop!
The great big greedy nincompoop!
How long could we allow this beast
To gorge and guzzle, feed and feast
On everything he wanted to?
Great Scott! It simply wouldn't do!
However long this pig might live,
We're positive he'd never give
Even the smallest bit of fun
Or happiness to anyone.
So what we do in cases such
As this, we use the gentle touch,
And carefully we take the brat
And turn him into something that
Will give great pleasure to us all–
A doll, for instance, or a ball,
Or marbles or a rocking horse.
But this revolting boy, of course,
Was so unutterably vile,
So greedy, foul, and infantile
He left a most disgusting taste
Inside our mouths, and so in haste
We chose a thing that, come what may,
Would take the nasty taste away.
'Come on!' we cried, 'The time is ripe
To send him shooting up the pipe!
He has to go! It has to be!'
And very soon, he's going to see
Inside the room to which he's gone
Some funny things are going on.
But don't, dear children, be alarmed;
Augustus Gloop will not be harmed,
Although, of course, we must admit
He will be altered quite a bit.
He'll be quite changed from what he's been,
When he goes through the fudge machine:
Slowly, the wheels go round and round,
The cogs begin to grind and pound;
A hundred knives go slice, slice, slice;
We add some sugar, cream, and spice;
We boil him for a minute more,
Until we're absolutely sure
That all the greed and all the gall
Is boiled away for once and all.
Then out he comes! And now! By grace!
A miracle has taken place!
This boy, who only just before
Was loathed by men from shore to shore,
This greedy brute, this louse's ear,
Is loved by people everywhere!
For who could hate or bear a grudge
Against a luscious bit of fudge?""

Let's just hope the Republicans come out the better for this, for the sake of us all so we don't have to go through this again. And the only way to make sure is to hold them accountable, to send them up the shoot like Augustus Gloop.

Nothing new here. They said they BELIEVED that Hussein had WMDs and was a threat to America. They also said that the war was justified with or without finding WMDs...and it was.

>>> There are people being slaughtered in Darfur and further south on the African Continent, but I didn't see conservatives clamouring to invade that region.

I think you would hear interventionist support if there were an "enemy" to fight, not simply to act as policemen...and targets.

>>> I am beginning to think they did it for one real reason: as with Bill Clinton and Monica... because they could, and it was something to do.

Because they were bored? LOL!

"Nothing new here. They said they BELIEVED that Hussein had WMDs and was a threat to America."

Good try. But wrong.

Cheney admitted that he would have gone to war with Iraq even if he knew it didn't have WMDs. This confirmed what all sane people strongly suspected. War with Iraq was on the Bush agenda. "Finding" the "facts" to "convince" America to allow them to make us do it was what they were doing. If it looks feels and smells like a . . .

Well, the truth is God knows the truth. God knows Bush and Cheney's reasons and all the rest of the neocons reasons for invading Iraq. Will Bush ask God for forgiveness on Judgement day? to forgive him for all the carnage and deaths and shattered dreams of parents and spouses who lost loved ones or for all those who came home maimed for life? If I were Bush or Cheney or any of the others, I couldn't live with myself. But, then they don't have any consciences or hearts, so they probably think they did right. Don't they read the words of the Lord? "Vengence is mine"?

Bush needed vengence against Saddam for the attempt on his Father's life. Had he actually assassinated his Father, I could maybe understand, but he didn't. Now this yahoo Gaffney says 4000 troops NEEDED to die? I wonder how the families who lost loved ones feel about him? I think I'd want to rip his heart out with a grapefruit spoon. I just feel very disgusted right now, so that is the reason for my feelings. I think of all the families who won't have their son, daughters, spouses home for Christmas. I am very sad for them.

I just can and never could have the nonchalant feelings about the war or anything else some conservatives have on this very board. I cannot understand how some can have

Well the liberals will then have clamour to invade those countries in 30 days to show how it's done.

It's a great loss to lose anyone in the military. Do you know the number of military lost during Clinton's watch?
