I can't quite express how much this has upset me.

<<Right, so the left's answer is to give the Palestinians just enough to live on and continue terror instead of finding a more lasting peace.>>

I think that would probably be the exact opposite of what

I'm tired of the RIGHT assuming to know what we on the Left want.

This conflict is not really about religious beliefs, its about territory and resources.

That's probably true--but the religious differences are certainly a factor in historical hatreds and schisms. Reminds me in many ways of the sectarian differences in Northern Ireland.

Would Gaza exist as a separate enclave, both taking and sending bombardment, if it was Jewish?

>>> But surrender? How? Did you think there were Israelis soldiers in the streets asking for the civilians of Gaza to surrender? Did you think they launched the missle attacks that killed this woman from next door and all she had to do was wave a white flag and they'd have taken her children and her ---- where?

Well, lessee...hmmm...how about walking unarmed to the Israel border and turning yourself in to the Israeli army BEFORE the incursion? Wait...that can't work...it makes too much sense!

>>> They aren't bringing folks out into Israel, Egypt hasn't opened the borders. The UN camps and the Red Cross stations were some of the earliest targets.

You're suggesting that Israel targeted "innocent" Red Cross stations and UN camps? Why would they do that?

I don't know why they are doing it -- well, except the keep the Red Cross and UN from effectively doing their jobs.

>>> I am too personally invested in this issue to keep up the argument,

That's too bad.

>>> but I want to calrify that the Palestinians in Gaza are not free to leave and go anywhere. There are displaced Palestinians in other areas, but the ones in Gaza cannot leave Gaza. Israel won't let them out by land or sea. Egypt won't let them in, either. American won't let them in here. Eurpoe doesn't want them. They have absolutely nowhere to go.

What is the legal right by which Israel keeps the Palestinians "prisoners," and yet is not rebuked by the international community?

That is a very interesting question.

In reality, the refugee situation developed from 1948 through 1967, with wars in the region.

No, her family did not support Hamas.

Guess I must have been out of the loop. When did Clinton invade Iraq? How long did we occupy the country? Were there over 4000 fatalities?

I made several points in the earlier post and will repeat them here to make certain of clarity:

"There appears to be an assumption that, just because many key Democrats also bought into the arrant ignorance, those who opposed the war from its onset should accept the Democratic participation as proof positive of certain unproved premises."

and

"Near as I can tell, the primary thrust of argument appears to be that Democrats and Clinton believed that Saddam presented a threat so BushCo was merely taking the premise (NOT A FACT) a bit further, enhancing it more than a little with statements implying a link to 9/11, and using the whole sorry house-built-on-sand as the basis on which to wage a war of aggression. There is a vast chasm between "supporting regime change" and the unprovoked invasion of a sovereign nation. At least Clinton had the intelligence to avoid bogging us down in a war/occupation of attrition."

and

"The 'he believed it, so it must be true, and I believe it too'...rationale for invading a sovereign nation and the subsequent deaths of hundred thousands... is not acceptable at all and absolutely damning in terms of Bush "leadership"! Follow Clinton without verification? Not much metal in Bush’s mettle! Let's face it, if the U.S. had not been so badly fear-rattled by the 9/11 attacks, there's no way that the war could have been pushed so effectively."

How familiar. Opinions stated as facts do not transform those opinions into facts.

Been here, done this before, opted out before and will do so once again.
