Disappointed with the Speech

I was actually a little bit excited about the inauguration ceremony today and anxious to hear our new president's speech. It could have been so good. It could have been inspiring. Instead I thought it was a downer. It seemed like President Obama is still in "campaign mode". He needs a new speech writer. President Clinton would have understood that the nation, so excited by this historic day, would want to hear an inspirational speech on a day like this. I think he blew a once in a lifetime opportunity. I am a little sad instead of excited after hearing it.

My dad agrees with you. He said to me after watching the speech, "Now that he is elected, has he decided to be a white guy now?".

I'm still loving him, but wish he had spoken more about what an important day this was.

McCain and Obama agreed to public financing, which would have made it a fair race. McCain, a man of integrity, was as good as his word. Obama, a man of no scruples, lied.

The only people who didn't like Palin were the libs...and they weren't going to like her anyway.

As far as libs are concerned, it's propaganda, not facts, that matter. LOL!

I'd love it if Newt ran as well.

You know, I've heard this over and over, but have never really understood what it meant. How would it have been a fair race if Obama had accepted public financing? I don't understand the system.

Just keep telling yourself that...

If Obama had accepted public financing, then he and McCain would have had the same amount of money for the campaign, presumably making it more fair in terms of advertising.

Well, I'd prefer a presidency rather than a speech (and I'm sure you would too ;o) that will be remembered throughout history.

Also, I don't believe that many who were there that day (or watching on TV at home or around the world) will be forgetting it or the day any time soon. They came specifically to be a part of history and from what I gather, most went away completely satisfied (and inspired). It may not have fulfilled your expectations. I can respect that. Even though I'll agree that it might not have been his best speech to date, it was still pretty darned good and it fulfilled my expectations and those of many others.....but then again, my expectations were different than yours. I do believe that there are too many people that have unrealistic expectations of Obama and this may end up proving to be his biggest Achilles heel in the end.

What's interesting about Obama is that ALREADY he has given a number of great speeches that will be remembered for generations (before he was even sworn in). Most politicians can only point to one or two great speeches in an entire career...and I think Obama still has a few more in him yet.

It would have been a "fair" race because both men would have had the same amount of money to finance their respective campaigns. As it turned out, Obama out-spend McCain 3-1...meaning that for every ad McCain aired, Obama ran three. Very significant when trying to connect with voters.
