Appearing for the supporters of Prop 8, Kenneth Starr, the former Whitewater prosecutor, said the people hold the right to modify the state constitution by adding or subtracting protections for civil rights.

Court appears ready to uphold Prop. 8

>>>>> The USA did NOT enforce desegregation?

I'm sure they did, but are they there yet?

In my personal experience (and I'm certainly not THAT unique) segregation is present within women's groups.

Within women's groups, minorities are 'outshouted' by their common goal (legal equality for women).

So while black/of-color women and white women are all women,

>>Denying a voice to someone who is denied rights is different than the voice of those who wish to deny the rights. Oppressed vs oppressors.

........ and the oppressed become the oppressors.

>>> Wow, what is it about bus that is so intriguing?

It isn't really that intriguing for me, but you keep bringing it up.

>>> It's EQUAL ACCESS to the bus. Bus-- a means of transporting people from point a to point b.

But it's the same bus, right? It didn't have to be altered or changed in any way for everyone to have EQUAL ACCESS did it? The seating arrangements only had to be opened up a bit.

>>> Marriage.... a legal/civil contract between two individuals. Religion can be incorporated, but does not have to be incorporated.

Actually, "marriage" is the union of a man and a woman. In the VAST majority of cases, religion is incorporated, and has been for many thousands of years.

>>> Contrary to bigoted belief systems, no one group owns the right to the word marriage.

And contrary to militant belief systems, minorities don't have the right to shove their personal and political agenda down other people's throats and corrupt their social institutions/traditions.

........ and the oppressed become the oppressors.

That can happen at times, as with Sunni's in Iraq... but there is no danger gays are oppressors here, and that has nothing to do with the current situation or subject matter.

>>> You have acknowledged marriage was not defined. In a nation of laws, boo boo number one, because not only is it not defined, it is not defined in the state constitution.

It is in California. And when the CASC upholds prop 8, I'm sure you'll see a lot of other states following suit.

>>> On a different note, I rather take offence with my relationship being reduced to bestiality machinality, paedophilia,

"Your" relationship was no reduced to anything. In fact, it has never been mentioned. But it's a rather selfish, and oppressive point of view to demand that your atypical relationship should be given social sanction and equal rights while denying that same sanction and rights from other atypical relationships.

>>> and now... comparisons to the tantrum of a child wishing a different lollypop.

It was a perfect illustration of the "pro-gay marriage" argument.

I suspect Prop 8 will be upheld, but it will be voted out within a few years.

Not really, because these are really comparative issues, they are deflective issues, that serve to harm the side that invokes them, so be my guest.

To be honest, I really do not care what any given
